Airport Issues Update - July 20, 2008
The FAA has responded to Bob Hope Burbank Airport addressing their request for a formal block of night-time operations. They didn’t say no, but instead provided an 18 page list of issues that would have to be addressed before they would formally answer. Don’t expect approval any time in the near future.

There is an underlying theme developing in the news coverage of Chairman Oberstar’s hearing on the FAA. The FAA is trying to put out this fire and convince the public that this incident is an isolated incident. Barring that, they would have you believe that these symptoms are limited to the FAA’s Southwest Region. |

Air Traffic, Not Ground Space, is LAX's Safety Issue

"I was dismayed by Charles Crumpley's Comment column of Jan. 28 ("Neighbor Noise Stifling LAX") in which he argued in favor of moving the northernmost runway at Los Angeles International Airport farther north. He said it was for safety reasons and to accommodate the new generation of bigger aircraft, but apparently he's been fooled by the repetition of inaccurate facts. |

US FAA Acting Administrator Bobby Sturgell's nomination to a five-year term to lead the agency is in doubt following yesterday's contentious confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce and Transportation Committee and a procedural tactic initiated by two senators that prevents the chamber from voting on the matter. |
